Freetown, 1st June 2026 — A new chapter in maternal healthcare has begun in York Community as UBA Sierra Leone, through the UBA Foundation, in partnership with the Orange Foundation, officially inaugurated the Maternity Section of the York Community Health Centre.
The facility, unveiled in a ceremony attended by government officials, development partners, and community leaders, is expected to significantly improve maternal and child health services in the area.
Speaking at the event, Mohamed Alhajie Samoura, MD/CEO of UBA Sierra Leone, underscored the importance of community ownership. “This facility belongs to the community. If we take care of it today, it will continue to save lives tomorrow,” he said.

Orange Sierra Leone CEO Aicha Toure praised the power of partnership, while District Medical Officer Prince Masuba reaffirmed the Ministry of Health’s commitment to ensuring that “no mother should die during childbirth.”
UBA Sierra Leone emphasized that the project reflects its broader commitment to corporate social responsibility, particularly in healthcare, education, and empowerment. The bank encouraged residents to take full ownership of the facility to ensure sustainability.
For York Community, the inauguration represents more than just a new building it symbolizes hope, life, and a brighter future for mothers and babies. The maternity wing is expected to provide safer deliveries, improved access to medical care, and renewed confidence in local health services.
