Kono, 21st September, 2026 – The Sierra Leone Police in Kono District have dismantled a suspected human trafficking operation linked to individuals posing as representatives of QNET, an international marketing company.
According to Komba Sorie, Information and Communication Officer of the Motema Police Division, the raid was carried out on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, following intelligence reports and a complaint from a victim who said they were lured with promises of lucrative jobs abroad.
Police apprehended 17 individuals during the operation at a residence in Fire Force, Koidu City. Preliminary findings suggest that the suspects used QNET’s name to recruit victims, collect large sums of money, and restrict their movement. Among those detained, one is alleged to be a perpetrator, while the others are believed to be victims from Ivory Coast and Mali.
“This operation was triggered by credible intelligence and direct complaints from victims. We have rescued the individuals and they are now assisting with investigations,” Sorie confirmed.
The development comes just days after the Ministry of Labour announced restrictions preventing Sierra Leoneans from using Guinea’s airport for employment travel, citing concerns over irregular recruitment practices.
Police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and pledged to provide updates as the case unfolds. Authorities are urging citizens, particularly young people, to exercise caution when confronted with job offers that promise unrealistic financial rewards.
“The public is encouraged to report any suspicious recruitment activities to the nearest police station,” the Motema Division stated.
The case highlights growing concerns over fraudulent recruitment schemes in Sierra Leone, with law enforcement intensifying efforts to protect vulnerable citizens from exploitation.
