Freetown, 26th October 2026- US-based businessman Mohamed Conteh has opened the Med Con Gas Station at John Obey, becoming one of the newest names in the oil and gas industry. Located across the Atlantic Ocean, the station is set to serve surrounding communities as well as road users, offering different products at normal prices.

The opening, Conteh said during an interview with Truth Media, is a culmination of work that started three years ago.

A dealer in electronic devices, Conteh explained that he was advised by a friend to invest in the petroleum sector to scale up his enterprise. Before work began following thorough consideration, he ran a water company on the land.

“I got massive support from members of this community, which gave me confidence that the gas station will do well,” says Conteh, revealing that the community support boosted his confidence to double down on his investment. The gas station will run 12 hours daily, from 8 am to 8 pm, Conteh said.

As a complementary investment and in matching up to international standards, a minimart was also opened at the back, dealing in provisions, snacks, baby formula, hygiene products and more. All three businesses – the gas station, water company and minimart – carry the same name.

Conteh’s Calls to Sierra Leoneans

“Invest in your country – once you invest, you will be good,” Conteh urged fellow Sierra Leoneans, especially those based in the diaspora. Regarding his business, his message was simple: “patronise my business,” he said.

The plan is to take the business beyond John Obey and Freetown. “We want to extend and establish in Kenema, Bo and across Sierra Leone,” Conteh said, revealing his ambitious plan while sitting and smiling inside his office space located at the back of his newly opened gas station.

The grand opening was attended by family and friends of Conteh, mostly from his Fourah Bay Community, and religious leaders who offered prayers before proceeding to the ribbon-cutting. The event marked a new chapter in Conteh’s journey, a commitment by the establishment to God and the foundation for possibly larger investments.
