Waterloo, 14th July 2026 — Officers of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) have arrested a man at the Waterloo checkpoint after allegedly finding him in possession of an unlicensed pistol loaded with 16 rounds of live ammunition.
The suspect, identified as Tejan Jabbie of New London, Kossoh Town, Freetown, was taken into custody on Tuesday during a routine checkpoint operation led by Superintendent Bankolay Mansaray, Local Unit Commander of the Waterloo Police Division.
According to police reports, Jabbie was travelling in a vehicle with registration number ARQ 600 when officers conducted a search and allegedly discovered the firearm and ammunition concealed inside.
Following the arrest, the suspect and the seized weapon were handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for further investigation.
Superintendent Mansaray reaffirmed the division’s commitment to maintaining strict checkpoint operations, stressing that such measures are vital in preventing the movement of illegal firearms, combating crime, and ensuring public safety nationwide.
The Sierra Leone Police Media Team has assured the public that robust security operations will continue across the country as part of efforts to strengthen law and order.
