Freetown, 25th May 2026 — Prominent lawyer Martina Baindu Egbenda has officially declared her candidacy for President of the Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA), pledging to restore unity and strengthen professionalism within the legal fraternity.

Speaking ahead of the Association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), Egbenda said her decision was driven not by a quest for power, but by a desire to rebuild the SLBA into a credible, united voice for the legal profession.

“My message is simple: we need a United Bar. An association that speaks with one voice, makes the rule of law a priority, ensures professionalism and growth, and makes us a serious and united association again,” she stated.

Egbenda emphasized that her leadership vision is rooted in servant leadership, calling on colleagues to join her in the journey toward a stronger, more cohesive Bar.

“I cannot do this alone. I seek to be your servant leader. Together, we are better and stronger. Let us do this together,” she added.

Her campaign theme centers on unity, professionalism, and growth, with a focus on repositioning the SLBA as a respected institution that advances the rule of law and protects the integrity of the legal profession.

The SLBA elections are expected to be closely contested, with candidates presenting competing visions for the future of the Association.
