Freetown, June 23, 2026 — The Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security has confirmed that Mr. Lin Zhang, a Chinese national whose work permit was withdrawn following allegations of assault against a Sierra Leonean factory worker, has left the country.
Senior officials from the Ministry conducted a follow-up inspection at KK Company in Six Mile, Western Rural District, where the incident occurred. The company presented documentary evidence, including Mr. Zhang’s travel itinerary, confirming his departure. Management further disclosed that it had imposed a permanent ban on Zhang from returning to Sierra Leone in connection with its operations. Disciplinary measures were also taken against a local security guard and another worker implicated in the case.
Labour and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) officials used the visit to carry out a broader compliance inspection of KK Company’s operations. Following the assessment, the Ministry issued an Improvement Notice directing the company to address identified concerns within a specified timeframe.
The Ministry emphasized that the enforcement action reflects its commitment to protecting workers’ rights and ensuring adherence to labour standards. “We will continue to monitor implementation of directives to guarantee compliance with national labour laws,” officials stated.
The case has drawn attention to workplace safety and accountability in Sierra Leone’s industrial sector, underscoring the Government’s resolve to strengthen oversight and safeguard employees from abuse.
