Freetown, 19th May 2026- Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Fatima Maada Bio, has spoken candidly about her political future. Responding to suggestions about a presidential ambition during an interview on the BBC programme ‘The Interview’ with journalist Megha Mohan, Mrs. Bio stressed that leadership is ultimately determined by divine will.
“I am not hungry to be president. If it is what God wants, no man can stop it. It will be the role that God has chosen for me,” she said, underscoring her belief that destiny, not ambition, shapes political roles.
She highlighted her ongoing fight against child marriage and stigma, describing them as difficult but necessary battles. “The people and the children of this country deserve more. If I can be that bridge for them to see they have a future, to understand that being a woman is not a crime, then that is what I do,” she explained.
Mrs. Bio also addressed the sexist remarks she has faced from both politicians and the public. “If they are not frightened of my presence, they will not do it,” she remarked, framing such attacks as evidence of her growing influence.
