17th August, 2026 Vice President Dr Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has embarked on a two‑week nationwide tour of regional headquarters towns to deepen dialogue on decentralisation and strengthen Sierra Leone’s local governance system.

As Chairman of the Inter‑Ministerial Committee on Local Governance and Decentralisation, Dr Jalloh will meet with Paramount Chiefs, Local Councils, Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and community stakeholders to discuss opportunities and challenges facing service delivery at the local level.

The Vice President said the engagements are designed to bring government closer to the people by listening to their concerns and learning from their experiences. “These visits are about listening, learning and working together to build a more responsive and effective system of local governance,” he noted.

Beyond formal meetings, the tour will allow Dr Jalloh to interact directly with communities whose daily lives are shaped by decisions made through the decentralised governance framework.

According to the Office of the Vice President, the consultations will help identify practical solutions to improve coordination between national and local institutions, enhance accountability, and ensure that decentralisation delivers tangible benefits to citizens.

Stakeholders are expected to raise issues ranging from fiscal transfers and service delivery to institutional capacity and community participation.

The initiative underscores government’s commitment to making decentralisation a cornerstone of inclusive development. By engaging directly with regional authorities, the Vice President aims to reinforce confidence in local governance structures and ensure that national policies translate into improved services at the grassroots level.
