Freetown, 30th September, 2026 – The Ministry of Health has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding healthcare infrastructure across Sierra Leone, with major hospital projects now underway in Lumley, Kerry Town and Waterloo.
“Every brick laid today is a promise kept for tomorrow,” declared Minister of Health, Dr. Austin Demby, underscoring the government’s vision of bringing quality healthcare closer to communities.
Recently, Deputy Minister of Health II, accompanied by the Senior Permanent Secretary and other senior officials, toured the construction sites to assess progress. At Lumley, a 100-bed hospital is rapidly taking shape. In Kerry Town, multiple health facilities are rising side by side, while Waterloo is set to host another modern hospital.
The inspection was not ceremonial. Officials pressed contractors on timelines, quality standards, and challenges slowing progress. “Every project must meet its agreed specifications, timelines, and quality standards. Our people deserve nothing less,” the Deputy Minister emphasized.
He added that the Ministry will continue to monitor construction closely: “We’ll keep showing up, asking tough questions, and pushing until these doors open to the communities that need them.”
For families in Lumley, Kerry Town, and Waterloo, the promise is clear: shorter journeys to care, cleaner hospital beds, and faster access to lifesaving treatment.
