Freetown, 14th September 2026- The Sierra Leone Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has arrested four suspects in connection with an attempted break-in at a gold office at Number 13 Bumbuna Road, Magburaka, following an incident that has raised concerns about security and the alleged involvement of individuals with previous criminal records.
The Head of CID, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Alieu Jalloh, disclosed that the suspects were arrested after allegedly breaking through a fence at the back of the compound and attempting to gain entry into the office. He said the suspects were detected by a police officer and Community Safety Volunteers who were on patrol in the area.
According to ACP Jalloh, the suspects reportedly fled the scene after being detected, prompting a pursuit by security personnel. The pursuit led to the interception of a vehicle and the arrest of its driver, while further police operations resulted in the arrest of three additional suspects in connection with the attempted break-in.
ACP Jalloh further disclosed that police checks revealed previous criminal records involving some of the suspects, raising further concerns about the circumstances surrounding the incident. However, the Police have not disclosed the identities of the suspects or provided further details regarding their alleged previous offences.
The four suspects are currently assisting the Police with investigations as the CID continues efforts to establish the full circumstances of the incident and determine the individual roles of those involved. The Police have yet to announce whether the suspects will be formally charged, as investigations remain ongoing.
