Freetown, 6th July 2026- The College Of Digital Excellence has organized its 4th matriculation ceremony, welcoming 350 new students who are set to learn new digital skills.

The ceremony, held at the Choithram School Compound in Freetown, was to formally welcome the students to the college, legitimizing their membership in the college.

Delivering the keynote address, the Mayor of Freetown Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr emphasized the importance of excellence in the digital economy, urging the students to embark on a transformational journey at CODE.

Aki-Sawyerr urged the students to refrain from examination malpractice, encouraging them to focus on personal excellence rather than just institutional excellence.

“After this journey, you are no longer going to be takers but creators of jobs,” said Aki-Sawyerr.

Reflecting on CODE’s journey, the Director of CODE said CODE was created as a specialized digital journey to equip students with high-level, practical technology skills.

“When we established CODE, it was built on a bold, disruptive premise: that the digital economy waits for no one, and that the youth of Sierra Leone possess the raw talent to command it,” she said.

She encouraged the Matriculants to be problem solvers of the current climate and waste challenges Freetown continues to face, urging them to use their education in that direction.
