Freetown, 7th July 2026– Freetown is preparing to take center stage in West African diplomacy as President Julius Maada Bio readies to host the 69th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government on 19th July 2026. The high‑level summit will be held at the newly built Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre in Lungi, a facility set to become a hub for regional cooperation.

In the lead‑up to the summit, Sierra Leone will welcome ministers, delegates, and ECOWAS officials for a series of statutory meetings in Freetown. These include:

39th Administration and Finance Committee: 12–14 July, Bintumani New Hall, 56th Mediation and Security Council: 15 July, Bintumani New Hall, Joint MSC/Council Compact of the Future: 15 July, Bintumani New Hall, 96th ECOWAS Council of Ministers: 16–17 July, Bintumani New Hall

On 18th July 2026, President Bio will officially commission both the International Conference Centre and the ECOWAS Logistics Depot. The new infrastructure is expected to strengthen Sierra Leone’s role in regional affairs, while the depot will enhance ECOWAS’s operational capacity.

These events highlight President Bio’s growing influence within ECOWAS, reflecting his commitment to regional integration, peace and security, and shared development across West Africa.
