Freetown, 12th January 2026- The Sierra Leone Association of Business Owners in Tourism and Hospitality (SLABOTH) has been officially launched, marking a new chapter for the country’s tourism and hospitality industry.

SLABOTH is a national, member-driven association bringing together restaurant owners, hoteliers, event venue operators, tour companies, and leisure service providers across Sierra Leone’s tourism value chain.

Chairperson Ngadi Kamara explained that the association was born out of an urgent need to give business owners a stronger voice. “This sector contributes significantly to employment and community development, yet our voices are often unheard, our challenges unaddressed, and our contributions underrepresented in national policy discussions,” she said.

Kamara emphasized that while no single business can tackle systemic challenges alone, SLABOTH provides structure and representation for all. “We are committed to building a sustainable, credible, and globally competitive tourism and hospitality industry, and we plan to partner with the Ministry of Tourism and the National Tourist Board,” she added.

Delivering the keynote address on behalf of Tourism Minister Nabeela Tunis, Robert Leigh welcomed the association as a vital addition to the sector. “The formation of SLABOTH is an additional pillar of solidarity and sustainability, helping to minimize unhealthy bickering in the industry,” he said. Leigh urged members to remain optimistic and uphold the highest professional standards. “Be proud of how far you’ve come and be optimistic about the new frontiers you are set to unravel. Maintain professionalism and respect to strike a balance when disagreements arise, and work collectively to grow the sector,” he advised.

He assured SLABOTH of the ministry’s full support. “The Ministry’s door is wide open to assist in the realization of SLABOTH’s mission,” he noted.
