Freetown, 21st November, 2025 The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has reaffirmed its decision to impose a fine on the All People’s Congress (APC), citing contravention of Section 39(1) of the Political Parties Act No. 25 of 2022.

In a formal response to correspondence from the APC, the Commission stressed that the penalty was issued under Section 39(2)(a) of the Act, which empowers the PPRC to take regulatory action once proof of a violation has been established. The Commission emphasized that its decision was firmly grounded in law and facts, and underscored its independence and impartiality in carrying out its statutory mandate.

The PPRC explained that the meeting convened on November 11, 2025, was aimed at addressing concerns over incendiary and inflammatory statements made by members of both the APC and the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) on media platforms. The Commission warned that such utterances had the potential to undermine peace and public order. That engagement concluded with both parties signing an agreement committing to restraint and responsible conduct.

Following the meeting, the Commission issued a formal warning letter in line with Section 39(2)(a). Responding to APC’s request for “verified evidence,” the PPRC clarified that the law places the responsibility of establishing proof on the Commission itself, not on political parties.

Section 39(2)(a–d) of the Act outlines the procedural steps the Commission must follow in cases of violations, and the PPRC insisted its actions were fully aligned with these provisions.

The Commission further noted that the 14‑day compliance period expires on December 2, 2025. Failure by the APC to comply within this timeframe, it warned, would leave the Commission with no option but to invoke additional provisions of Section 39(2).

Reaffirming its commitment, the PPRC said it remains dedicated to upholding the rule of law, preserving political stability, and ensuring that all political parties adhere to the standards required for a peaceful and democratic Sierra Leone.
