Freetown, 23rd February 2026 – Popular model, actress, and politician Zainab Sheriff, widely known as Mami Na Pawa, spent the weekend in custody at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) after being arrested on Friday, February 20, 2026.

Sheriff had been declared wanted by the Sierra Leone Police earlier this month on allegations of incitement and threatening language, linked to remarks she allegedly made during an APC rally at Attouga Mini Stadium. Police sources say her comments were considered provocative and potentially capable of inciting unrest.

She was apprehended at Royal Fitness Gym in Freetown, where she had gone to exercise, following what authorities described as an “intensive manhunt.” Sheriff was then transferred to CID headquarters, where she remained in detention throughout the weekend as investigators processed her case.

The arrest followed a public notice issued by police on February 13, 2026, under warrant number W/A 105/2026, accusing her of sharing content on social media deemed inflammatory.

Sheriff’s detention has drawn significant public attention, with supporters and critics alike weighing in on the case. Her arrest underscores the heightened political tensions surrounding the APC’s activities as the party continues its lower-level elections and mobilization efforts.

Authorities have confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that formal charges are expected in the coming days.
