Freetown, 13th July 2026- The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) has congratulated broadcaster James Tamba Lebbie on his successful selection as Director of Media at the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC), following what the association described as a “rigorous, competitive and transparent recruitment process.”

In a statement signed by SLAJ President Alhaji Manika Kamara, the association praised Mr. Lebbie’s professional competence, integrity, and longstanding contribution to journalism and media development in Sierra Leone. SLAJ noted that his appointment reflects not only individual merit but also the growing recognition of professionalism within the country’s media landscape.

“As you prepare to assume this important leadership role after receiving your Offer Letter from the Board, we are confident that your wealth of experience, commitment to ethical journalism, and passion for public service will contribute significantly to strengthening SLBC’s mandate as the nation’s public broadcaster,” the statement read.

SLAJ also commended the SLBC Board for maintaining consistency in its transparent recruitment process, ensuring that the right candidate emerged to lead the corporation’s media operations.

The association expressed optimism that Mr. Lebbie’s tenure will advance media freedom, professional excellence, and quality public service broadcasting in Sierra Leone.
