Freetown, 26th June, 2026 – A joint security operation has intercepted a 40‑foot container carrying more than 1,000 cartons of counterfeit Amoxicillin 500mg capsules at the Queen Elizabeth II Quay in Freetown.
The seizure was carried out by the Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone, working alongside the Ports Authority, Police, National Revenue Authority, Office of National Security, and Customs officials.
Authorities revealed the counterfeit consignment bore the following details: Batch Number: 260233. Manufacturing Date: February 2026. Expiry Date: February 2029
The Pharmacy Board confirmed that the product has no registration, marketing authorization, or import permit in Sierra Leone. Officials warned that its safety and efficacy cannot be guaranteed, urging the public not to buy or consume the capsules.
“This interception underscores our commitment to safeguarding public health,” the Board said in a statement, stressing that counterfeit medicines pose serious risks to consumers.
The public has been advised to report any information regarding the sale, distribution, or storage of the counterfeit Amoxicillin to the Pharmacy Board for immediate regulatory action.
Health officials note that counterfeit pharmaceuticals remain a growing threat in West Africa, undermining treatment outcomes and endangering lives. The Board assured citizens of its continued vigilance in protecting Sierra Leone’s health sector from unsafe products.
