Freetown, 24th August 2026- The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has formally transitioned leadership from outgoing Commissioner General Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura to newly appointed Commissioner General Mr. Abu Martin Kanneh, with a handing-over ceremony held on August 21, 2026.
The ceremony brought together members of the NRA Board, senior management, directors and staff to mark the change in leadership, review key achievements under the outgoing administration and set priorities for the new leadership.
Mrs. Bangura, who served as Commissioner General from December 4, 2023, formally handed over a report covering her tenure through August 2026. The report outlined major programmes, reforms, activities, achievements and milestones recorded by the Authority during the period.
In her remarks, Mrs. Bangura thanked the NRA workforce for its commitment and support throughout her tenure, acknowledging the collective contribution of staff to advancing the Authority’s mandate.
Chairman of the NRA Board, Mr. Kabineh Kallon, commended Mrs. Bangura for her service and contribution to the Authority, and wished her success in her new appointment.
Mr. Kanneh thanked President Julius Maada Bio for the confidence placed in him to lead the NRA. Drawing on his previous experience as Commissioner of the Customs Service Department, he said he was familiar with the Authority’s operations and called on staff to unite behind the new administration.
He identified strengthening domestic revenue mobilisation, improving the NRA’s public image, deepening taxpayer engagement and maximising the benefits of ongoing reforms and innovations as key priorities.
Mr. Kanneh also stressed the importance of effective revenue collection in financing government programmes and supporting national development.
The newly appointed Deputy Commissioner General 2, Ing. Edmond Benjamin Nonie, also expressed appreciation to President Bio for the opportunity to serve. He pledged to work with staff, listen and learn while contributing to the Authority’s mandate.
Deputy Commissioner General 1, Mrs. Ann-Marie Baby Harding, commended the outgoing leadership for its service and pledged her support to the new administration. She urged staff to maintain teamwork, cooperation and professionalism, noting that the Authority’s success depends on the collective efforts of its workforce.
Speaking on behalf of the Senior Management Team, Senior Director Dr. Philip M. Kargbo reaffirmed the team’s commitment to working with the new leadership to advance the NRA’s mandate.
Director of Human Resources Ms. Dora N. Tucker similarly pledged her support to the new administration and encouraged staff to remain committed, cooperative and focused on achieving the Authority’s strategic objectives.
The transition marks a new phase for the NRA while maintaining continuity in its efforts to strengthen domestic revenue mobilisation, implement institutional reforms, improve taxpayer services and contribute to Sierra Leone’s socio-economic development.
