Lungi, 14th August 2026 – The Ministry of Labour has dispatched an investigation team to probe the fatal incident that occurred yesterday at the Freetown International Airport, where construction works are ongoing at the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre.
The team, led by Ing. Osman Conteh, was tasked with conducting a preliminary investigation, determining the cause of the accident, and recommending measures to prevent future occurrences.
Preliminary findings confirmed that two people lost their lives, a Sierra Leonean and a Senegalese national, while two others survived and are receiving treatment at Life Care Hospital in Freetown.
The Ministry said it has already engaged with the affected families. Officials visited the family of the deceased Sierra Leonean to extend condolences and assured them that compensation will be provided in line with Sierra Leone’s labour laws. The Sierra Leonean victim is expected to be buried today, while arrangements are underway to repatriate the remains of the Senegalese national for burial in Senegal.
The investigation team has begun discussions with FB Group, the company responsible for the construction works. Dincsoy, MEP Manager of FB Group, pledged full cooperation with the inquiry and compliance with compensation requirements under Sierra Leonean law.
The Ministry emphasized that the investigation is still ongoing and promised to release a full report with findings and recommendations once the process is complete.
