Banjul, Gambia, 30th July 2026 – The Brusubi Magistrates’ Court has convicted 19 Sierra Leonean nationals after they admitted to unlawfully occupying a private compound in Brusubi.
The operation that led to their arrest was carried out by the Lower West Coast Region Task Force on Tuesday, 28th July 2026. Acting on a tip-off from a member of the public about suspicious activities at the premises, officers stormed the compound and found the suspects inside. Some reportedly attempted to flee upon the arrival of law enforcement but were quickly apprehended.
In court, all 19 individuals pleaded guilty to charges of criminal trespass and forcible detainer. Senior Magistrate Fofana sentenced each of them to two years’ imprisonment for forcible detainer and one year for criminal trespass.
Authorities confirmed that following the completion of their prison sentences, the convicts will be deported to Sierra Leone. The Gambia Police Force, after the ruling, reiterated its commitment to protecting property rights and ensuring that the law is upheld across the country.
