Freetown, 14th July 2026- Lead Counsel for former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma has announced that his client has been formally discharged of all criminal charges previously brought against him.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara, Esq., said the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice filed a Notice of Discontinuance under Section 45 of the Criminal Procedure Act, 2024, effectively ending the proceedings.
“This decision serves the interests of national peace, reconciliation, and social cohesion. We welcome the Attorney-General’s exercise of his lawful authority in furtherance of these important national objectives,” Kamara noted.
He emphasized that Dr. Koroma had respected the judicial process throughout the ordeal, cooperating fully with authorities and complying with bail conditions. With the discontinuance, Koroma’s bail is discharged, leaving him free to return to Sierra Leone at any time of his choosing.
The lawyer added that his client looks forward to resuming his contributions to national peace, dialogue, and development, while also spending time with his family.
“We trust that this matter is now closed and that no further legal or extra-legal measures will be pursued against him,” Kamara said, expressing gratitude to President Julius Maada Bio, the government, the people of Sierra Leone, the international community, and colleagues who supported Koroma during the case.
