Freetown, 11th September, 2026 – The Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security has announced the temporary suspension of all overseas recruitment activities connected to the Guinea route, following allegations that some private employment agencies and individuals have been using the route to facilitate the travel of Sierra Leoneans for foreign jobs.
In a public notice issued on Friday, the Ministry said the suspension takes effect immediately and will remain in place while investigations are conducted to establish the facts and ensure that all recruitment and deployment of Sierra Leonean workers comply with national laws and approved procedures.
The Ministry described the allegations as serious and confirmed that a formal inquiry has begun. It also directed all licensed overseas recruitment agencies to report to the Ministry for verification of their recruitment activities, including documentation related to the processing and deployment of workers abroad.
A press conference has been scheduled for Monday, September 14, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in the Ministry’s Conference Room to provide further clarification on the reported activities and update the public on ongoing measures.
Citizens have been strongly advised not to engage with any agency or individual offering overseas employment through the Guinea route during the suspension period. The Ministry assured that additional updates will be issued as the investigation progresses.
