Freetown, 12th October 2026 – President Julius Maada Bio has called for greater global commitment to preventing conflicts rather than merely responding to their consequences, warning that delayed decisions continue to worsen human suffering worldwide.
Speaking at the inaugural Geneva Peace Forum, where he delivered the keynote address during the high-level opening ceremony under the theme, “Choose Peace,” Bio highlighted the devastating impact of ongoing conflicts in Sudan, the Sahel, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the Middle East and Ukraine.
The President said millions of people continue to endure the effects of violence and instability because of delayed international action. He stressed that while the global community has become effective at managing the aftermath of war, equal determination must now be directed toward addressing the root causes of conflict before they escalate.
Bio’s remarks underscored the growing calls for proactive peacebuilding and early intervention to prevent crises and safeguard lives.
