Freetown, 14th July 2026 — Former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma has welcomed the discontinuance of treason-related charges against him.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Koroma expressed appreciation for the role played by His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio, the Government of Sierra Leone, and all those who acted in accordance with the country’s constitution to bring an end to the criminal charges instituted against him.

“Our country has overcome far greater trials because we have always found the wisdom to place nation above self, to build bridges of understanding, strengthen the bonds that unite us, and work together in pursuit of a stable and prosperous Sierra Leone for present and future generations,” he said.

Koroma reaffirmed his commitment to every sincere effort that advances peace, strengthens democracy, and promotes the welfare of the people of Sierra Leone.

He also expressed his profound gratitude to the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, and his friends, former heads of state, for their unwavering commitment to peace, dialogue, and regional stability.

Koroma conveyed his deepest thanks for the exceptional support and hospitality of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, praising his exemplary leadership, personal commitment, and steadfast support throughout the process.
