Bo City 5th July 2026- Dr. Ibrahim Bangura, flagbearer aspirant of the All People’s Congress (APC), stood prominently with his party’s leadership as they joined the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Chairman, Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa, in mourning the passing of his father, the late Alhaji Mohamed K. Songa, during a solemn 40-day memorial ceremony.
The event, held in Bo, drew an extraordinary cross-section of Sierra Leone’s political, religious, and traditional leadership, underscoring the late Alhaji Songa’s enduring legacy as a respected elder devoted to family, community, and service. Islamic prayers, tributes, and reflections filled the atmosphere, painting a portrait of a man remembered for humility, compassion, and humanity.
Dr. Bangura’s presence was particularly symbolic. As a rising figure within the APC, his participation highlighted a spirit of national unity that transcends political rivalry. Alongside Ambassador Osman Foday Yansaneh, Acting APC Chairman, Dr. Bangura reinforced the message that grief and compassion must bind Sierra Leoneans together, regardless of party lines.

He recalled how President Julius Maada Bio and SLPP leaders had stood with the APC during the passing of former Chairman Minkailu Mansaray, stressing that the APC’s attendance was a gesture of reciprocity and shared humanity. A cash donation was presented to the bereaved family as a symbol of support.

He described their participation led Ambassador Yansaneh as a powerful demonstration of political maturity and national cohesion. He commended the cordial ties he has maintained with APC leaders, noting that several had remained in close contact with him since his father’s passing.
The SLPP Chairman also praised President Bio for fostering dialogue and inclusiveness, urging all political actors to embrace peace, unity, and collective development above partisan interests. His call echoed the broader theme of the day: that Sierra Leone’s progress depends on solidarity across divides.
For Dr. Bangura, the memorial was more than a gesture of sympathy it was a reaffirmation of his vision for a Sierra Leone built on unity, compassion, and shared purpose. His role at the ceremony projected him not only as a political aspirant but as a statesman committed to bridging divides and strengthening the nation’s democratic fabric.
The memorial concluded with prayers for the peaceful repose of Alhaji Mohamed K. Songa’s soul, and blessings for lasting peace, love, and prosperity across Sierra Leone.
