Freetown, 25th February 2026 – Flagbearer aspirant of the All Peoples Congress (APC), Dr. Ibrahim Bangura, has issued a call for unity and decisive action following recent cross-border incidents involving Guinean military forces and personnel of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) in Falaba and Yenga.
Expressing deep concern over reports of confrontations and the capture of Sierra Leonean military personnel, Dr. Bangura underscored the sacredness of Sierra Leone’s sovereignty and the non-negotiable duty to protect its territorial integrity.
“I stand strongly with the State and the men and women of our Armed Forces who defend our territorial integrity with professionalism and courage. Our borders must be respected, and our national dignity must be upheld,” Dr. Bangura declared.
At this critical juncture, he emphasized the importance of national unity, urging Sierra Leoneans to rally behind institutions and support a peaceful but strategic resolution. He pledged his commitment to work with his party, the Government of Sierra Leone, and all stakeholders to ensure the matter is addressed in the highest national interest.
Dr. Bangura also reminded the Government of Guinea of the historical ties binding the two nations, recalling Guinea’s role in providing refuge and support to Sierra Leoneans during the civil war. He urged Guinean authorities to halt actions that escalate tensions and instead pursue diplomacy and bilateral dialogue.
“Incidents along our shared border threaten to undermine decades of regional cooperation and mutual trust. Peace must be rooted in mutual respect and adherence to agreed principles,” he noted.
In his message to Sierra Leoneans, Dr. Bangura called for calm and solidarity, stressing that unity is the nation’s greatest strength in safeguarding its sovereignty.
