Freetown, 8th May, 2026 – Sierra Leone’s healthcare system has received a major boost following a donation of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies worth USD 2.1 million from ChildFund, in partnership with MAP International.
The consignment, handed over to the Ministry of Health, includes essential drugs and consumables such as prenatal supplements, diabetes medication, pain relievers, antibiotics, IV fluids, respiratory masks, examination gloves, and infection control systems. The supplies are expected to strengthen healthcare delivery nationwide, particularly in maternal health, non-communicable diseases, and infection prevention.
Among the donated items were over 12,000 units of prenatal micronutrient supplements, more than 14,000 units of acetaminophen, diabetes medication including Januvia, as well as vital medical consumables such as N95 masks, nitrile gloves, sharps containers, and electrolyte solutions.
“As a partner to the Ministry of Health, we are providing the necessary support in terms of drugs and pharmaceuticals for the people, especially those in remote areas,” said Victor Kamara, Country Director of ChildFund.
Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr. Mustapha Kabba welcomed the gesture, describing it as tangible support that directly advances the ministry’s goals. “This is what we have always benefited from ChildFund. These donations are real contributions ensuring the ministry achieves its objectives,” he said.
The donation comes at a critical time as health facilities across Sierra Leone continue to face rising demand for essential medicines and supplies. Officials say the intervention will help bridge gaps in service delivery and improve outcomes for vulnerable communities.
