Freetown, 5th May 2026- The All People’s Congress (APC) Members of Parliament have taken their seats and resumed work in the well of Parliament after weeks of absence, marking the end of their boycott of national proceedings. Their return was warmly acknowledged by Speaker Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, who commended the opposition MPs for rejoining debates on national affairs.

“You have a national duty to the people who elected you,” Speaker Thomas told the APC MPs. “Use your voices as tools to address the concerns of your constituents.”

The presence of the APC MPs was immediately felt as they added their voices to ongoing debates, signalling a renewed commitment to legislative engagement.

Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, praised the Speaker’s leadership in facilitating their return.

“The Speaker held several engagements with us, appealing for our return to represent our people,” Hon. Kargbo said. “We commend his role and now urge the laying of the Agreement for National Unity in Parliament, alongside the establishment of an Oversight Committee to monitor the Electoral Management body.”

In response, Speaker Thomas assured the opposition that their concerns would be addressed once the leadership of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) returns to Parliament.

The APC’s return comes at a time when many SLPP MPs were absent, with several attending state functions abroad. Even the Leader of Government Business was away on official duty, leaving the chamber notably imbalanced.

Despite the absence of ruling party MPs, the APC’s re‑entry into parliamentary debates marks a significant step toward restoring political dialogue and legislative balance.
