Freetown, 11th June 2026- Nyapui Secondary School of Excellence was struck by tragedy early Thursday morning when a fire engulfed its old classroom block, destroying key facilities including the Examinations Office, Staff Common Room, ICT Laboratory, and seven classrooms.
The blaze, which broke out around 1:35 a.m., is the latest in a series of fire incidents at the school. According to management, the flames appear to have started in a single classroom before spreading rapidly through the building.
School authorities have assured parents and guardians that all students are safe and remain under supervision. However, following an emergency safety meeting, normal academic activities have been suspended pending consultations with stakeholders on the way forward.
Parents and guardians were asked to report to the school at 10:00 a.m. to collect their children. For students in examination classes (JSS 3 and SSS 3), management has offered flexible arrangements, allowing parents to decide whether their children should remain at home while continuing preparations for their exams.
“This is a very difficult moment for our school community,” the administration said in a statement, thanking parents for their cooperation and support during the crisis.
Further updates are expected as discussions with education authorities and community stakeholders continue.
