Freetown, 23rd March, 2026– President Julius Maada Bio has put to rest rumours about his health, dismissing speculation with humour and faith.
Speaking at an Eid gathering marking the end of Ramadan, the President waved away claims that his recent weight loss and new haircut were signs of illness. “Ah decide say ah dae put me body dong, en den say na cancer ah don get,” he said, drawing laughter from the crowd.
Bio assured the public that his slimmer frame was a personal choice, not a medical crisis. “God willing, I will not get cancer,” he said firmly, adding that Sierra Leoneans should avoid wishing bad things on others. “If you pray for bad things to happen to people, just know it will get back to you.”
The President emphasized that his leadership is guided not by physical strength or personal intelligence alone, but by divine direction. “As I stand here, it is God who guides me. If I do well as a leader, we all will benefit. But if I lead in a bad way, it is the people who will suffer.”
His remarks, delivered with characteristic wit, resonated with the faithful gathered for Eid prayers. By turning rumours into a moment of humour and reflection, Bio reminded Sierra Leoneans that leadership is about service, faith, and resilience.
