Freetown, 6th February 2026 – Two of Sierra Leone’s leading corporate foundations, UBA Foundation and Orange Foundation, have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen maternal healthcare, expand digital inclusion, and improve community health infrastructure nationwide.

The first joint project under the agreement will be the full renovation of the York Peripheral Health Unit Maternity Clinic, a facility that serves hundreds of women and families in the Western Area.

Health Minister Dr. Austin Demby hailed the partnership as a critical move toward reducing maternal deaths in Sierra Leone.

“Health is a national priority. Public-private partnerships are vital to achieving zero maternal deaths. Thank you, UBA and Orange, for this bold step,” he said.

UBA Sierra Leone Managing Director and CEO, Mohamed Alhajie Samoura, underscored the bank’s commitment to go beyond financial services:

“No child should lose their first breath due to lack of technology. At UBA, we go beyond banking to build a healthier, stronger Sierra Leone.”

Orange Sierra Leone CEO, Aïcha Touré, highlighted the alignment of values between the two institutions:

“UBA Foundation’s work in education, empowerment, and sustainability since 2004 aligns perfectly with our pillars, making this partnership strategic and impactful.”

The signing ceremony brought together the Minister of Health and Sanitation, executives from both organizations, development partners, and members of the media. The event underscored the growing role of corporate institutions in tackling Sierra Leone’s health challenges.

With maternal mortality rates still a pressing concern, the partnership between UBA Foundation and Orange Foundation signals a new era of collaboration, one where business and community interests converge to save lives.
