Freetown,23rd October 2025- Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has described the inauguration of the 5th Chinese Chamber of Commerce as a “revitalised chapter” in Sierra Leone’s economic partnership with China, urging foreign investors to deepen local engagement and support national development.

Speaking at the ceremony held on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Bintumani International Conference Centre, Dr. Jalloh commended Chinese companies for their growing presence in Sierra Leone’s manufacturing, mining, and construction sectors.

“Over the last two to three decades, we’ve seen consistent growth in Chinese investment,” he said. “Today, Chinese businesses are thriving across key industries, and we are pleased with the progress made so far.”

The Vice President emphasized the need for African nations to shift away from reliance on international aid and focus on domestic resource mobilisation and private-sector growth. “The only alternative now for most Sub-Saharan African countries is to look inwards,” he noted. “Investment creates jobs, boosts tax revenue, and strengthens our manufacturing base.”

Dr. Jalloh also highlighted the role of Chinese enterprises in supporting Sierra Leone’s macroeconomic stability, citing improvements in inflation, exchange rates, and interest rates as signs of a conducive business environment.

He urged foreign investors to uphold professionalism, respect labour laws, and prioritize corporate social responsibility. “Local content is very important,” he said. “Companies must source materials locally and train Sierra Leonean workers to build capacity and sustain growth.”

The Vice President praised firms such as Leone Rock Metal Group, CRSG, and Ganfeng Lithium for their contributions to education, infrastructure, and community development. “Scholarships, school projects, and health centres are the best gifts companies can give to communities,” he added.

Dr. Jalloh concluded by commending the Chinese Ambassador and the new leadership of the Chamber for their role in strengthening bilateral trade. “Today’s inauguration marks a milestone in Sierra Leone-China cooperation,” he said, expressing confidence that the Chamber will foster stronger networks to support local businesses and drive economic transformation.
