Freetown, September 26th 2025– The National Medical Supplies Agency (NMSA) has officially kicked off its third and fourth-quarter nationwide distribution of Free Healthcare commodities, reinforcing its commitment to accessible and equitable health services across the country.
The distribution exercise begins today, Friday, September 26, 2025, at the Princess Christian Maternity Hospital and the Ola During Children’s Hospital in Freetown. From there, deliveries will roll out to all 16 District Medical Stores, 24 government hospitals, and selected private and faith-based facilities, with onward supply to Primary Health Units (PHUs) nationwide.
Target beneficiaries include pregnant women, lactating mothers, children under five, persons living with disabilities, and survivors of Ebola and COVID-19. The commodities, valued at approximately USD 1.5 million are provided through support from the UK Government via FCDO, UNICEF, and the Government of Sierra Leone.
“This distribution is part of our quarterly commitment to ensure life-saving medicines and supplies reach those who need them most,” said an NMSA spokesperson. “We are strengthening health service delivery and protecting vulnerable groups through consistent and reliable access to essential healthcare.”
NMSA, legally mandated to procure, store, and distribute medical supplies across Sierra Leone, conducts four Free Healthcare distributions annually. The agency emphasized that all commodities are provided free of charge and warned that any attempt to sell them will be met with severe legal consequences.
“We urge the public, health workers, and partners to help monitor and safeguard these supplies,” the spokesperson added. “Free Healthcare commodities are not for sale period.”
As the rollout continues, communities across Sierra Leone are expected to benefit from improved access to maternal and child health services, reinforcing the country’s broader goals of universal health coverage and social protection.
