Tombo, 13th July 2026  The Salmana Heart Foundation has officially launched the Salmana Heart Hospital in Tombo/Madina, a development residents say could transform access to healthcare in the community after decades of struggle with inadequate services.

Speaking on the healthcare services, the supervising medical doctor, Dr. Mohamed Sallieu Sowe, said they would cover almost everything at their level, stating that they would do all types of surgeries: lower hernia repair, hydrocele repair, among others, and offer surgery for people who got in an accident.

He also mentioned that they have an equipped laboratory to investigate all disease conditions. He was speaking during the launching ceremony of the hospital in Tombo, on 10th July, 2026.

Discussing the staffing, Dr. Sowe said he has an encouraging number of trained and qualified staff who would run the hospital. He said it is not about the quantity of the staff that mattered, but the quality, stating that it is his community and he did not want anything less for the community but quality. He said if there is a need to bring more staffing going forward, he would do so. “For now, we have staffing that covers the facilities – surgery, maternity, obstetrics and gynaecology, pediatric unit and the internal medicine person, and we have CHOs, as well.”

Sending a message to the community, he assured them that they would bring quality healthcare services. “The hospital is standard – one that would provide all hospital care services delivery,” he said, urging them to trust the hospital and come for healthcare facilities. “We will provide our best to ensure that we provide the necessary healthcare. We have equipped laboratory standby to investigate all disease conditions,” he said.

In his welcoming address, a community resident, Samuel Williams, thanked the people who supported the project. He called on the community to take care of the facility and not to destroy it, but to help grow it.

The Chairman of Masjid Dauda in the community, Osman Jalloh, urged the organization that built the hospital to bring a good medical expert to run the hospital. He said, “We are ready to protect the hospital.” He encouraged community people to learn nursing, so that they would have the chance to work at the hospital.

A Police Operation Officer at Tombo, Hakim Kamara, also urged the people to take care of the facility and assured them that the facility would be monitored for security purposes.

Senior Headman Boreh Area, Ibrahim Kamara, said they are happy. “We don’t have to suffer to go far away to seek medical attention,” he said, while thanking the organization.
