Freetown, 13th January 2026- The Minister of Information and Civic Education, Honourable Chernor Bah, has assured women in Bombali District that the ongoing constitutional review process will be inclusive and reflective of the voices and aspirations of citizens, particularly women.

He gave the assurance during a public engagement forum organized by local non-governmental organization, SEND Sierra Leone, which brought together women from across the region to discuss proposed constitutional reforms.

“Gone are the days when documents as important as our constitution are written by a few people behind closed doors,” Minister Bah said. “We will ensure full transparency by publishing all proposed changes, and you will see that the constitution truly reflects your voices and aspirations.”

He further announced that a dedicated website would be launched in the coming week to outline all proposed constitutional amendments.

According to the Minister, citizens will ultimately have the power to approve the final document through a national referendum.

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Honourable Alpha Sesay, commended SEND Sierra Leone for facilitating the engagement and encouraged similar initiatives across the country.

He emphasized that the constitution belongs to the people and must be owned by them.

“This is our constitution, all of us as a people,” Attorney General Sesay said. “After over 20 years of reviews and reforms, President Julius Maada Bio is committed to ensuring that this process is completed in a way that reflects the will of the people.”

The event, which was attended by more than one hundred women from diverse backgrounds, provided an opportunity to ask questions and make contributions on the proposed reforms to the constitution.

One of the participants, Kadiatu Koroma, a member of a local women’s network, welcomed the openness of the process. “This information is very important for us. As women, we feel empowered when we receive the right information and are included in discussions about the constitutional review process,” she said.

Beyond this engagement, the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Information and Civic Education are jointly implementing a nationwide public engagement programme aimed at ensuring that citizens fully understand the reforms being proposed in the new constitution.
