Freetown, 9th June, 2026 — The Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, has issued a stern warning to Members of Parliament (MPs) to remove abandoned vehicles from the parliamentary compound, declaring that the premises must not become a dumping ground.
The Speaker’s directive came after reports that MPs’ vehicles were scattered across the compound, with even “strangers” bringing in cars.
“If you know you don’t need your vehicle, make sure you carry them away,” Speaker Thomas cautioned.
He gave MPs a two‑week deadline to act, threatening that if the vehicles were not removed, the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) would be called in to tow them.
“If SLRA carries the vehicles away, you would have to pay to get it back… or we will have to auction them,” he warned.
The announcement underscores growing concerns about order and discipline within Parliament’s precincts, as the Speaker moves to enforce standards befitting the nation’s highest legislative body.
