Accra, Ghana – Sierra Leone’s Minister of Transport and Aviation, Ambassador Col. (Rtd.) Alhaji Fanday Turay Esq. as the outgoing Chancellor, Board Chairman 2024-2026, and four other Senior government officials were among the distinguished personalities honoured during the 20th Congregation Ceremony held in Ghana on Saturday, 27th June 2026 in recognition of their outstanding leadership, professional excellence, and contributions to the transport and maritime sectors.

The four others were the Senior Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Transport and Aviation, Rev. Edward Kwame Yankson as the outgoing Chairman of the Experts Committee of the Regional Maritime University Board of Governors, Mrs. Inatorma Coomber of the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration, the outgoing Chairperson, Administration sub-Committee of Experts RMU, Mr. Hassan Lahai of Sierra Leone Maritime Administration, outgoing Chairman, Audit sub-Committee of Experts RMU and Mr. Malcolm D. Leigh of the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority, outgoing Chairman, Finance sub-Committee of Experts RMU.

The ceremony brought together government officials, academics, maritime professionals, and invited guests from across the sub-region – Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Gambia, Cameroon and Sierra Leone to celebrate the achievements of graduating students while recognising individuals who have made significant impacts in their respective fields.

During the event, Ambassador Turay and four others were presented with a Citation of Honour, acknowledging their commitment to advancing Sierra Leone’s transport and aviation sector, promoting regional maritime cooperation, and supporting initiatives aimed at improving transportation infrastructure and connectivity across the sub-region.

The presentation, conducted in a colourful academic ceremony, saw university officials commend the Minister and team for their dedication to public service and their efforts in strengthening partnerships within the maritime and transport industries.

The citation highlighted their roles in championing reforms and fostering collaboration that continues to enhance Sierra Leone’s position within the regional transport and maritime community.

Other distinguished personalities from the region also received similar honours for their contributions to education, governance, maritime development, and public service.

The recognition further underscores the growing role of Sierra Leonean leaders in regional institutions and reflects the country’s increasing engagement in advancing transport, aviation, and maritime development across West Africa.

The 20th Congregation concluded with the graduation of students from various academic programmes and renewed calls for stronger regional cooperation in developing the next generation of maritime and transport professionals.
