Freetown, 1st September 2026- A Parliamentary Select Committee has conducted an oversight visit to the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA), assessing its operational performance and contributions to national development.
Led by the Leader of Government Business, Hon. Mathew Sahr Nyuma, the delegation of senior Members of Parliament was received by SLPHA Director General Yankuba Askia Bio. In his briefing, Bio outlined key achievements, including the Authority’s transfer of US$19 million to the Government of Sierra Leone over the past three years — US$4 million in 2023, US$7 million in 2024, and US$8 million in 2025.
He further highlighted infrastructure upgrades at the port, particularly improvements to berth facilities that have expanded operational capacity and enabled larger vessels, including Panamax ships, to dock in Freetown.
Members of Parliament commended the Authority’s management and staff for the progress made, while stressing the importance of consistent public communication on SLPHA’s activities and impact on national growth.
The visit concluded with a tour of port facilities and an inspection of the proposed Kent and Banana Island Seaport project, underscoring Parliament’s interest in the Authority’s long‑term expansion plans.
