Freetown, 31st August, 2026 —Fabrizio Romano, a sports journalist, has reported that FC Augsburg have reached a verbal agreement to sign Sierra Leonean centre-back Juma Bah on a season-long loan from Manchester City.
The deal, reported on August 29, 2026, includes a buy option set at over €20 million, with a non‑mandatory clause.
This structure allows the Bundesliga club to assess Bah’s adaptation to German football before committing what would be a club‑record fee of Augsburg’s current transfer record, which stands at €16.36 million while giving Manchester City an exclusive path to a permanent sale if the player proves his worth.
The move comes just days before the German football transfer closes on 1st September.
Bah’s journey to European football is ramarkable. He was born on 11th April, 2006, in Freetown, Sierra Leone. He spent his teenage years helping his parents at their bakery while playing soccer on the streets with barefoot. Bah was spotted by an agent while playing for Freetown Giant Academy. He was later then signed with AIK Freetong in 2021.
Bah went through Sierra Leone’s domestic football ranks before his European breakthrough in 2024 when he joined Real Valladolid on loan and became the first Sierra Leonean to be featured in La Liga.
His performances caught the attention of Manchester City, who triggered his €6 million release clause in January 2025, in a controversial move, as Valladolid accused Manchester City of letting the teenager break his youth contract.
The transfer, however, went through. But City later loaned Bah to RC Lens, then to OGC Nice for the 2025/26 season.
At Nice, he capped 41 appearances across all competitions, including 22 Ligue 1 starts, with 29 interceptions, four clean sheets, and an impressive 91.5% passing accuracy.
He has also earned seven caps for Sierra Leone since his international debut in March, 2025.
Bah stands at 1.95 metres (6 feet 5 inches tall) and, with a right‑footed profile, blends physical dominance with composure in possession.
For Augsburg, the logic behind the loan is clear. Manager Manuel Baum now has five central defenders available, but Bah offers a specific profile, as he is a two‑footed player.
For Manchester City, the business is equally shrewd. Bah signed a long‑term contract through 2031 before departing on loan, so if Augsburg eventually triggered the €20 million‑plus option, City will more than triple their original €6 million outlay If the option is not exercised, Bah will return to the Etihad with Bundesliga experience.
The verbal agreement is now in place, with the exact loan fee remaining to be clarified.
For Juma Bah, it is another remarkable chapter in a journey that has taken him from the streets of Freetown to Spain, England, France, and now Germany.
