Freetown, 17th August, 2026 – In order to contribute to addressing the increasing online scamming, Orange Sierra Leone has launched the “Scam Alert tool,” an instrument designed to help customers report and protect themselves from fraud and financial scams.

Speaking at the launch, held at Orange Digital Centre, Hill Station, on 13th August, 2026, keynote speaker and CEO of Orange Sierra Leone, Aicha Toure, noted that the reporting tool is an important initiative aimed at strengthening customer’s protection, combating fraud and reinforcing trust in the digital ecosystem.

The tool can be utilized through their website or through the short code *505# to report online fraud.

Under the theme “Protecting Our Customers Together,” the mobile network operator acknowledged the increasing online fraud, noting that it is a global problem and reinforced their commitment to protecting customers.

The CEO of Orange Sierra Leone encouraged customers to refrain from sharing their mobile security credentials to any caller claiming to call from the company. “Orange Sierra Leone will never ask a customer to disclose their Orange Money pin or password to claim a price or money that you have won. Do not share your pin with anyone” she said.

Discussing the increase in online scamming, Toure described it as a matter of national concern, noting that customers are easily targeted through fake promotions and social media messages.

She stated that the tool would easily help customers to verify and report suspicious numbers. She encouraged consumers to report suspicious members, stating that would help Orange identify fraud patterns.

Head of Compliance, Orange Money, Gerald Musa also encouraged customers to report fraud and emphasized that Orange will work with law enforcement institutions to combat online scamming.

Representatives from National Cyber Coordination Center, Financial intelligence Agency, Civil society, and Consumer Protection Agency commended Orange for the initiative and encouraged customers to be vigilant to tackle online scamming.
