Freetown, 7th September, 2026 – All People’s Congress (APC) flagbearer hopeful Dr. Ibrahim Bangura has issued a strong appeal for unity and discipline within the party, warning that internal competition must never degenerate into self‑destruction.
His call comes at a time when the APC is grappling with multiple court cases and uncertainty over when it will convene its long‑delayed national delegate conference.
“Internal competition must never turn into self‑destruction. Our unity, discipline, and maturity will shape our success,” Dr. Bangura declared, stressing that the party’s ability to return to government depends on overcoming divisions and building a culture of inclusivity.
Dr. Bangura pledged to reconcile aggrieved factions and resolve disputes, promising to create a level playing field where members can freely express their views and compete under the same rules. He emphasized that unity must be grounded in respect for the party’s constitution, democratic values, and disciplined leadership.
“Without unity, the party cannot lead our supporters into government,” he said, adding that his vision is for an APC that reflects Sierra Leone’s diversity, where women, men, and young people are equally empowered to serve.
The APC hopeful outlined plans to ensure participation across ethnicity, region, district, and gender, rejecting what he described as “divisive and backward politics.” He argued that Sierra Leone’s national development requires bringing people together rather than marginalizing them based on identity or affiliation.
“I will lead an APC where no one is advantaged or disadvantaged because of their ethnicity,” Dr. Bangura pledged, insisting that both the party and any future APC government must mirror the country’s demographic diversity.
Dr. Bangura’s message resonates with supporters who see his leadership bid as a chance to modernize the APC and restore confidence among its grassroots. His emphasis on unity, discipline, and inclusive leadership positions him as a candidate determined to steer the party away from factionalism and toward national relevance ahead of the 2028 elections.
