Freetown, 26th August, 2026 – A 37-year-old healthcare worker who works under the Western Area Rural District Health Management Team, Mohamed F. Kamara, is seeking about US$15,000 to undergo specialized orthopedic surgery in India after sustaining multiple pelvic fractures in a motor vehicle accident while on duty.
Kamara was injured on 16th July, 2026, while collecting drugs for HIV/AIDS patients. He was then taken to the Emergency Hospital at Goderich, where he received treatment and was kept under observation before being discharged.
However, subsequent medical investigations found that Kamara sustained complex fractures involving several parts of the pelvic ring and the right hip socket, requiring further specialist orthopedic treatment.
A ‘CT’ scan of his pelvis showed fractures of both the superior and inferior pubic rami, the right acetabulum, the right iliac crest and the posterior portion of the right acetabulum. The scan also identified fresh blood-density areas around the inner surface of the iliac bone, consistent with recent traumatic injury.
Following his discharge, Kamara was taken to Dr. Nabieu, who works at New Hope Hospital for further assessment. The doctor recommended that he seek specialized orthopedic treatment in India.
A separate assessment was later sought from an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Rady, at Freetown International Hospital, where Kamara’s X-ray and available medical records were reviewed. The surgeon also advised that surgery was required.
The recommendation is consistent with an earlier specialist assessment from CARE Hospitals in Hyderabad, India, where Dr. Ashok Raju Gottemukkala, clinical director and senior consultant Orthopedic Surgeon, reviewed Kamara’s medical records, X-rays and clinical findings.
Dr. Gottemukkala recommended Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (ORIF) involving the iliac wing, superior pubic rami and acetabulum, following a comprehensive medical evaluation.
ORIF is a surgical procedure used to reposition fractured bones and stabilize them with internal fixation devices to facilitate proper healing. In Kamara’s case, the fractures involve bones that are critical to supporting the body, transferring weight to the legs and maintaining hip function.
Although Kamara has completed his emergency treatment, his definitive orthopedic care remains outstanding. The recommendations from multiple medical assessments have pointed to the need for further orthopedic management and surgery.
The estimated US$15,000 required for his treatment and travel includes specialist medical evaluation and investigations, orthopedic surgery, hospital admission and postoperative care, international travel for Kamara and one attendant, accommodation, local transportation and other essential medical-related expenses.
Kamara, who works under the Western Area Rural District Health Management Team, is appealing for public assistance to help meet the cost of the recommended treatment.
His case is now being brought to the attention of the Truth Media Team in the hope that public support can be mobilized to enable him to travel to India, undergo the recommended surgery and begin the rehabilitation needed to regain his mobility.
