Freetown, 18th May 2026 – Former presidential candidate Dr. Samura Matthew Wilson Kamara has expressed his readiness to join efforts aimed at resolving the deepening divisions within the All People’s Congress (APC), calling for an expanded meeting to address what he described as the “untenable state” of the party.

In a letter to Hon. IB Kargbo, Executive Secretary of the APC Elders Council, Dr. Kamara acknowledged the Council’s initiative and pledged his commitment to restoring the party’s founding ideals of democratic governance and national service. He emphasized that his advocacy under the banner of “Electoral Justice and Democratic Legitimacy” remains focused on reclaiming what he insists was the APC’s stolen mandate in the June 24, 2023, elections.

Kamara criticized the party’s national leadership for what he termed “anti‑party activities,” accusing them of betraying members and supporters by relinquishing governance to the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) despite the APC’s proclaimed victory. “The vast majority of the APC membership and indeed the whole country felt let down and betrayed,” he wrote, warning that such actions continue to erode public trust.

He confirmed his willingness to participate in meetings that address the disputed 2023 presidential election, the Agreement for National Unity, and the recommendations of the Tripartite Committee. He also urged frank discussions on rebuilding confidence in the APC’s executive leadership and strengthening the party’s role in Sierra Leone’s multi‑party democracy.

Dr. Kamara signalled he may delegate representatives to initial engagements but stressed his alignment with the Elders Council’s mission to restore trust among APC supporters. He further requested access to the report of the party’s Nine‑Man Committee, describing it as vital for ongoing deliberations.

“The restoration and sustainability of our democracy in Sierra Leone is a task that must be done now and carried infinitely into the future,” Kamara concluded, thanking the Elders Council for its efforts to steer the party through its current impasse.
