Dutch justice minister David van Weel has stepped up efforts to rally West African governments against Sierra Leone’s ‘protection’ of Europe’s most wanted drugs kingpin, Jos “Bolle Jos” Leijdekkers.

Sierra Leone has wrapped up the 69th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, concluding a summit that produced major policy decisions on regional security, economic integration and governance while reinforcing the country’s standing as a key player in West Africa.

Sierra Leone’s government says the country has already begun reaping economic dividends from hosting the 69th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Mid-Year Summit, with more than 1,200 Sierra Leoneans employed during the six-month preparation period and a total workforce surpassing 2,000 across hospitality, catering, transport, logistics, and support services.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has formally endorsed Sierra Leone’s candidate, Prof. Dr. Charles C. Jalloh, for election as Judge of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the principal judicial organ of the United Nations.
