Freetown, 4th August 2026 — The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed an indictment against Francis Lavai, a volunteer attached to the National Medical Supplies Agency (NMSA) warehouse at Fawaz Compound, Ferry Junction, Freetown, over allegations of misappropriating public property.
According to the ACC, Lavai, of Mansaray Step, Devil Hole, Freetown, is accused of misappropriating a portable ultrasound machine valued at USD 38,000 between 1st December 2025 and 31st January 2026 at the Bo District Medical Stores in the Southern Province. The machine, described as a black-and-white convex ultrasound device, was part of a consignment donated under the Sexual Reproductive Health Programme (SRHP) for distribution to Public Health Units in Bo District.
In its release, the ACC confirmed that Lavai has been indicted on one count of misappropriation of public property, contrary to Section 36(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 12 of 2008, as amended in 2019.
The Commission emphasized its commitment to safeguarding public assets, stating: “We remain unwavering in ensuring that all persons entrusted with public property are held accountable in accordance with the law.”
This indictment underscores the ACC’s continued drive to protect Sierra Leone’s healthcare resources and ensure transparency in the management of donated medical supplies.
