Freetown, 12th August 2026- The National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) entered a new chapter on Tuesday as Chernor Mamoud Jalloh officially assumed office as Director General, succeeding Mohamed Fuaad Daboh, who retired after a transformative tenure.
The handover ceremony, held at NASSIT headquarters in Freetown, also marked the appointment of Madam Jenneh Jabati as the new Chairperson of the Board of Trustees. Both appointments were unanimously approved by Parliament and witnessed by senior government officials, including the Secretary to the President and the Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security.
In an emotional farewell, outgoing Director General Daboh thanked President Julius Maada Bio for his support and reflected on achievements that reshaped Sierra Leone’s social security system. He cited the digital overhaul of the Pension Administration System, expansion of NASSIT’s presence nationwide, and stronger enforcement measures to ensure employers register workers and pay contributions.
Daboh also highlighted efforts to extend social protection to informal workers such as traders and transport operators, and presented NASSIT’s diversified investment portfolio spanning hospitality, banking, real estate and infrastructure. Flagship projects include the Radisson Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel, the Freetown International Conference Centre, and the Sewa Grounds Market complex.
Internationally, Daboh positioned NASSIT as a leader, serving as Vice Chair on the Investment Board of the International Social Security Association and the Association of Social Security Administrators in Africa. He urged his successor to leverage these platforms to sustain NASSIT’s visibility and partnerships.
“I can now retire safely, confident that the system I’ve maintained is protecting me. I feel proud that it is functioning well,” Daboh said.
Taking over, Jalloh pledged to build on his predecessor’s legacy with a leadership anchored on integrity, commitment and transparency. “I assure the President and the people of Sierra Leone of my absolute dedication to strengthening NASSIT and delivering better services,” he said.
The transition also saw Madam Isata Marrah hand over as Board Chairperson to Madam Jenneh Jabati, who vowed to provide strong oversight and support to the new executive team.
Government officials underscored the importance of NASSIT in national development. Secretary to the President Babah Fortune reminded the new leadership of the presidency’s high expectations, while Labour Minister Mohamed Rahman Swarray urged strict fiduciary responsibility to safeguard the dignity of Sierra Leonean workers in retirement.
With the symbolic handover complete, the Jalloh‑Jabati administration begins its mandate backed by parliamentary approval, a cohesive workforce, and a renewed commitment to expand social protection across Sierra Leone.
