Freetown, Sierra Leone, 12th September 2025 — The country’s main opposition party, the All People’s Congress (APC), has officially withdrawn its 2023 presidential flagbearer, Dr. Samura Matthew Wilson Kamara, from his role as Chief Negotiator in the Agreement for National Unity. But while the party says it’s still deciding who takes his place, the government appears to have already moved on.
APC Party Scribe Lansana Dumbuya confirmed the withdrawal in a Friday morning interview with Truth Media.
“Yes, Dr. Samura has been withdrawn,” Dumbuya said. “We’re currently holding discussions on who will replace him. A few names are on the table, and once we decide, the public will be informed.”
Until his exit, Kamara was the party’s lead figure on the Tripartite Committee—tasked with implementing the post-election unity accord. His departure leaves a vacuum at the negotiation table, and speculation is swirling.
Insiders have pointed to Dr. Kelfala Marrah as the likely successor, citing his prior involvement in the process and his controversial refusal to sign the agreement during its initial phase. That speculation gained weight Friday when Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh publicly confirmed Marrah’s appointment.
“I was informed by the APC Secretary General that their party has changed Dr. Samura Kamara as the Chief Negotiator in the Agreement for National Unity,” Sengeh said. “I look forward to working with their new Negotiator, Dr. Kelfala Marrah.”
The apparent disconnect between party statements and government confirmation has raised eyebrows, hinting at either internal deliberations or a strategic rollout still in motion.
