Freetown, 29th October 2026- The Embassy of China in Sierra Leone has expressed strong support for recent operations by Sierra Leonean authorities targeting a suspected international cybercrime syndicate, describing telecom and cyber fraud as a growing global threat that requires coordinated international action.
In a statement, the Chinese Embassy commended Sierra Leone’s security forces and the National Communications Authority (NaTCA) for conducting coordinated raids that led to the arrest and detention of several individuals currently under investigation for suspected involvement in cyber-related crimes.
The Embassy noted that telecom and cyber fraud have become major international challenges, affecting countries across the world and causing significant financial and social harm. It said the fight against such crimes demands stronger cooperation among governments and law enforcement agencies.
Highlighting China’s commitment to tackling the issue, the Embassy recalled that on September 10, 2026, China launched the International Alliance Combating Telecom and Cyber Fraud, an initiative aimed at strengthening global partnerships to curb the cross-border spread of cyber-enabled crimes and enhance international public security.
According to the statement, the Chinese government remains committed to working closely with Sierra Leonean authorities in ongoing efforts to investigate telecom and cyber fraud cases, as well as other forms of transnational crime.
“The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Sierra Leone will continue to work closely with the Sierra Leonean authorities and actively assist in inquiries into cases involving telecom and cyber fraud and other cross-border crimes,” the statement said.
The Embassy added that deeper cooperation in combating cybercrime would help protect the lives and property of citizens in both countries while providing a stronger security foundation for expanding bilateral relations and development cooperation between China and Sierra Leone.
