Freetown, 21st October, 2026- The Director General of the National Communications Authority (NatCA), Mr. Amara Brewah, continues to demonstrate determined leadership in advancing the National Identification Number (NIN)–SIM integration initiative, a critical national undertaking aimed at strengthening subscriber identification, combating telecommunications-related fraud and enhancing cybersecurity in Sierra Leone.

With the 1 November 2026 compliance deadline approaching, NatCA has intensified nationwide sensitization, conducted several stakeholder engagement campaigns and leveraged extensive media coverage to educate the public on the importance of integrating their NINs with their SIM cards.

These coordinated efforts reflect the Director General’s commitment to ensuring that consumers across the country understand their responsibilities, appreciate the security implications of non-compliance and take timely action to complete the process. Through collaboration with NCRA, mobile network operators, relevant government institutions and the media, NatCA continues to drive public awareness and encourage nationwide compliance.

Under the leadership of Director General Amara Brewah, the National Communications Authority continues to advance its regulatory mandate, strengthening efforts to build a more secure, accountable and consumer-focused telecommunications sector in Sierra Leone and beyond its borders.

The Authority’s sustained focus on regulatory compliance, stakeholder collaboration, consumer protection and public awareness reflects a broader commitment to ensuring that the country’s digital transformation is supported by effective oversight and responsible industry practices.

The ongoing NIN–SIM integration campaign further demonstrates this commitment. Through nationwide sensitization, extensive media coverage and sustained engagement with mobile network operators and other stakeholders, NatCA is taking its regulatory message beyond institutional offices and directly to the people it serves.

These efforts reinforce the importance of a telecommunications sector that not only connects citizens but also protects their identities, safeguards their interests and contributes to national security.

As cybersecurity threats become increasingly sophisticated, the Authority’s continued emphasis on subscriber identification and public education highlights the importance of proactive regulation in protecting the integrity of Sierra Leone’s digital communications environment.

Brewah’s leadership sees the NIN–SIM integration initiative as an opportunity to demonstrate the value of decisive regulatory leadership, effective stakeholder coordination, and nationwide public engagement in addressing a critical national priority.

At the heart of this initiative is a fundamental national priority: cybersecurity is national security. In an increasingly digital society, weak subscriber identification can create opportunities for identity theft, impersonation, SIM-related fraud and other cyber-enabled criminal activities. Strengthening the integrity of SIM registration is therefore an important step towards improving accountability, supporting lawful investigations and protecting citizens and the country’s digital ecosystem.

While NIN–SIM integration alone cannot eliminate cybercrime, its effectiveness, combined with robust data protection, secure registration systems and sustained public awareness, can contribute significantly to a safer telecommunications environment.

As the deadline draws closer, all subscribers who have not completed the process are strongly encouraged to contact their respective mobile network operators and integrate their NINs with their SIM cards before 1 November 2026.

Securing digital identities is more than a regulatory requirement; it is a collective responsibility towards protecting citizens, strengthening cybersecurity and safeguarding national security.

NatCA… Connecting the Future.
