Freetown, 14th October, 2026 – The Academic Staff Association of the University of Sierra Leone (ASA-USL) has reaffirmed continuation of industrial strike action until the Government fulfils or provides a written commitment addressing their twin demands of 100% Salary increase and approval of the revised Conditions of Service.
The resolution was adopted at a general membership meeting held on Tuesday, 13th October, 2026, at the Tunde Cole Building, Fourah Bay College, to deliberate on the industrial action instituted by the Union of Academic Staff Associations (UASA).
Among the following resolutions adopted, members reaffirmed their recognition of UASA and endorsed its continued role as the negotiating body on behalf of the Association.
The Association noted that it remains open to genuine and constructive dialogue through UASA, but insisted that any decision to suspend or call off the strike must be subject to consultation and approval of the general membership plenary.
The Association also called on UASA to intensify engagements with relevant stakeholders and authorities to ensure an astute and amicable conclusion of the industrial action.
According to a press release signed by its President, Desmond Songo-Davies, the Association, which comprises academic staff from Fourah Bay College (FBC), the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM), and the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS), said it maintains its position on the strike but remains committed to a peaceful resolution.
“ASA-USL reiterates its commitment to a peaceful resolution through genuine dialogue and urges all parties to engage constructively in the interest of academic staff and public tertiary education in Sierra Leone,” the release stated.
